Vernon; Entz shine to lead Terriers & Millionaires to big wins on Tuesday night

The Yorkton Terriers earned their 26th win of the season last night (Tues) as they held on for a 2-1 win over the Estevan Bruins at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

The Terriers would strike with the only goal of the 1st period as McKenzie Welke would just kinda dump it on net from inside the Bruins blue-line and it would sneak through the Estevan net minder Nathan Alalouf and the left post for the 2nd-year Terriers' 10th of the season to give the homeside a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Shots even at 12-12.

The home side would once again strike early in the middle frame as well as this time it would be Jared Legien sneaking home his team leading 27th of the season just 1:34 into the 2nd period to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead on the visiting Bruins after 2 periods with shots at 24-22 Yorkton.

In the 3rd period, the Bruins would finally convert on the power play as Michael McChesney would deflect home a point shot past Terrier netminder Matt Vernon for his 20th of the season but that's as close as the Bruins would get as the Terriers would hold on for the 1 goal win.

Matt Vernon (pictured above) was once again solid in the Yorkton net making 32 saves on 33 shots while Bruin netminder Nathan Alalouf turned aside 29 shots in the losing cause.

With the win the Terriers moved into sole possession of 6th place overall in the SJHL standings, 1 point ahead of both the Notre Dame Hounds and the Weyburn Red Wings.

Elsewhere in the SJHL,

The Melville Millionaires are now winners of 4 of their last 5 games as they blanked the visiting Notre Dame Hounds last night (Tues) 2-0.

Dayton Heino chipped in with 2 goals while Churchbridge product Colby Entz (pictured above) stopped all 40 shots he faced for his 4th shutout of the season.

The Mils still remain 1 point back of Melfort for the SJHL's final playoff spot after the Mustangs doubled up the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Tuesday, 4-2.
