Mils win; Terriers lose on Wednesday Night SJHL Recap

The Yorkton Terriers lost their 2nd straight on the road in Melfort on Wednesday night, 8-3 to the Mustangs at the Northern Lights Palace.

The Mustangs would strike first 5:27 into the 1st period as Lucas Fraulin would bang home his 2nd of the season to make it 1-0. They would then add a couple on the power play, first up Tanner Zentner would take a feed far side and go top shelf on Matt Vernon for his 7th to make it 2-0. Then on the next PP, Reed Gunville would grab a loose puck and shove home his 8th of the year to make it a 3 goal Mustang lead. Melfort wouldn't be done there as kind of a scramble in front of the Terriers net and Matt Hermary would find it and put home his 2nd to make it 4-0. The Terriers would get one late with 7.2 seconds to go as Corwin Stevely would take a nice feed from the Dexter Robinson and go over the left shoulder of Derrick Hucul for his 8th to make it 4-1 Mustangs after 1 period with shots at 19-7 Melfort.

Matt Hermary would regain the Mustangs' 4 goal lead just 2:28 into the 2nd period as he would fire home his 2nd of the night and 3rd of the season to make it 5-1. But on the power play the Terriers would once again cut it within 3 as Dexter Robinson would bury home his 5th to make it a 5-2 game after 2 periods.

The two teams would exchange goals to start the 3rd period as Justin Ball (Mustangs) and Jared Legien (Terriers) would bury home goals for their respective side to make it 6-3. The Mustangs would add 2 more late off the sticks of Andrew Thompson and Reed Gunville to make it a 8-3 final.

Derrick Hucul made 32 saves for the Mustangs for his 2nd win of the season while Matt Vernon also made 32 stops in the losing cause.

The Terriers are back at it on Saturday night as they host the La Ronge Ice Wolves at 7:30 FAA.

Elsewhere in the SJHL,

Colby Entz made 31 saves for his 1st SJHL shutout as the Melville Millionaires blanked the Notre dame Hounds on Wednesday, 3-0 at the Horizon Credit Union Center.

Tucker Scantlebury, Keegan Milligan and Cory Schillo scored for the Moneymen.
