Terriers; Wolverines both fall in Tuesday Night MJHL/SJHL action

The Wayway Wolverines put together a strong effort but still dropped their 7th straight to start the season, after 6-4 to the visiting Selkirk Steelers on Tuesday night.

The visitors would get on the board just 4:41 into the 1st as Cole McCartan would knock home his 2nd of the season to give the Steelers at 1-0 lead. The Wolverines would answer just 5:01 later as on the PP, Cody Durdle's point shot would go off a Steeler defender in front and by Brett Friesen for his 1st to tie things up at 1-1. The next marker wouldn't come until the late stages of the 1st at the 15:04 mark as Braden Shea would capitalize on a big rebound and chip in his second marker to make it 2-1. But this Wolverine squad would answer back yet again as Brendan Martin would poke him his 1st MJHL goal just 44 seconds later to even it up at 2-2. But the Steelers would regain their one goal lead, as Jake Dudar would take a nice feed backdoor and hammer home his team tying 6th of the season to make it a 3-2 Steeler lead after 1 period. Wolverines led the shot department, 11-9.

The Wolverines would have a couple of early power plays to start the middle frame but despite the bunch of chances the Wolverines wouldn't be able to convert and their PP would drop 1/4 on the night. The Steelers add a little insurance in the 2nd late as Jake Dudar would add his 2nd of the night and 7th of the season with just over 3 mins to go to give Selkirk a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes with the Wolverines still leading the shot column at 24-17.

Just a short time into the 3rd, the Wolverines would cut their deficit to once again within 1 as Buchanan's Korwin Shewchuk would redirect home his 2nd of the season to make it a 4-3 game. But it would be another answer, this time on the PP for the Steelers as Dallas Starodub would be Johnny on the spot for his 7th of the year to make it a 5-3 Steeler lead. With Wolverines down 2, they would get a 5 on 3 PP and they would convert as Nathan Peabody's point shot would make its way through traffic and into the back of the net for his 1st to make 5-4 deficit. But thats as close as the Wolverines would get as Dudar would ice it into the empty net for his hat trick goal to give the Steelers a 6-4 win in Wayway.

Brett Friesen made 28 saves for the Steelers to get his 4th win of the season while Hunter Lorensen made 23 saves in the loss.

The Wolverines are back at it for a 2 game road trip this weekend starting on Saturday night when they visit the Portage Terriers before visiting Winnipeg on Sunday.
